My IPad

I saved up and bought an IPad along with this case/keyboard to store it in.  I just love the portability of it and the size.
I am like a kid in a candy store with the apps.  I found a CNN app and that led to one thing, then another.
While looking at my newly downloaded CNN app an article, 10 things you should not do with your smartphone caught my eye.  Being a new owner of a device similar to a smartphone I thought it would be a good thing to read.  I also have observed in my college classes, being the in the minority age bracket, that many traditional age students cannot put away their smartphone, even though the professor specifically ask them to.  They are addicted.  I see them hiding them on their lap and as the professor has their head turned hurridly checking whatever they are looking at.  I see them hidden against their purses or just blatenly laying on their desk texting.  It's an epidemic.  It's okay not to know what is happening for two hours. Their world and the rest of the world will not cave in, plus we have breaks where they can check the all important.

So off my soapbox and back to my trail through my new apps, in this article it talks about an artist named Austin Kleon who wrote a book "Steal Like an Artist".

I thought "Oh My Gosh" I love this book.  I also have a love affair with Amazon.com (I have their credit card so everything I buy will get points toward Amazon purchases).  So then I had to go in and download the Kindle App.  I then purchased this book in the E-version and "WhaLa" like magic it came onto my IPad.  I have it with me whenever I have a little time for joy.  Everything he talks about, I have learned and use now, from my art classes at The University of Saint Francis.

Also in the previously mentioned article is spoke about an author Anias Nin.  Click on this to see who she was.  I may see if there are any E-Versions of her book at the library, since I have downloaded their app.  If not, I will put a hold on it and go to the actual building to get it.
Oh I love the feel of a real book!

THE TIGERS ARE WORLD SERIES BOUND

I got this from the Detroit Free Press this morning.
The Tigers swept the Yankees last night.
The National League is still playing so we have to wait to see if the Tigers play St. Louis or San Francisco.
Either way, the Hawkins House will be there all the way.

Crown Hill

This last weekend Tom, Kevin and I went to Indianapolis.
Kevin took a weekend class of blacksmithing at Connor Prairie.
Tom and I explored the city.  We went to a huge cemetery name Crown Hill.
There are many notable people buried there, James Whitcomb Riley for one.

A sculpture of a child reading the book, Little Orphant Annie.
If you didn't know who James Whitcomb Riley is, this explains it.

With the good, come the bad.
The notorious robber of the 1930,'s
John Dillinger's grave.  I especially liked the toy replica gun.

This is the grand entrance to the cemetery.  It was a pretty day.

Here is the marker pointing to where the grave site is for the 23rd president of the United States.

President Harrison's headstone

I just thought this was an interesting arraignment.

Here is the Irsay family plot.  They are the owners of the Indianapolis Colts NFL football team.

This grave site was especially interesting with the trees and bushes and the long stair steps walking up to it.

The trees frame it very nicely.

And it had an in ground sprinkler system.
Here were some golf lovers.

The Robert Frost poem was a nice touch.  There was seating for visitors and also the nice planter on top.  A lot of thought went into this headstone.

This was just a big rock with the name engraved on it.

An obvious lover of music.

The tall big tree in the back I liked the shape of.  The tree stump in the front is actually a headstone.

A beautiful Angel watching over everyone.

This leads into a mausoleum. Quite beautiful with a lighthouse.
These little angels were around the building possibly for air vents?

This interesting area piqued my interest.  A sculpture of a boy kneeling on the bench.

He has something in his hand that he is looking at.
And it is an acorn.
Note the name and the inscription.
Very Original.

Lastly-A tennis enthusiast.

What I just showed you was a small piece of interesting history in this cemetery.
I hope it was enjoyable for you.

to screen or not to screen

This porch faces due west and in the summer especially it gets too hot to use and the sun glares in at dinnertime.
We found a unit called panorama by Stoitt that seems to have fixed our dilemma.
The company came out and put the wood up where the tracks for the screens will go.

We had to get the wood painted and then the company came back and installed the tracks and screen.  The screen had to be ordered for our dimensions.
The screen is made out of woven PVC and is very tough.

Right here the screens are going down.  We can completely enclose this like a screened in porch or have only one down to stop the sun.  The screens are supposed to stop 90 percent of the sun.
It seems to stop the breeze also.
We should really enjoy this.

Detroit Tigers American League Central Champs!

I started the baseball season with this picture from the Detroit Free Press.

Last night the Tigers clinched the American League Central Division.
They will start the playoffs on Saturday...they have a couple more regular season games to play, so they don't know who they will play yet.
The man on the left is Miguel Cabrerra who is in the running for the triple crown in baseball and the man on the right is Jim Leyland the manager of the Tigers.
It's going to be some long nights ahead.

cards

I mentioned that I would show the cards I made last week.
A couple are also when we went to the Cincinnati Stamping Convention in August.

season ends

The past week the weather has just been perfect.  A nice breeze, the lower 70's, sunshine.  Many of the plants are wearing down, the sunflowers are hanging their heavy faces and are drying out.  The mums though are in their glorious splendor.  I love the perfect shapes of the two in the foreground.

I still am in awe of the size of the one on the right.

The giant zinnias with their rough looking flowers.  The orange color is just so pretty.

stampin

I got together with my stamping friends on saturday for a fun day.
We laugh and talk and just have an all around great time with lots of great food that Theresa made this time.  Here is one of her cards.  An embossed spiderweb and an Inky Antics folksy ghost with pretty patterned plaid paper.  Cute, cute envelope too.

A nice anniversary card with Morningstar kissing birds.

Thanksgiving cards with pretty patterned paper and DiNami stamps.

Michelle made halloween cards for her kids using the embossed spiderweb also.  The ghoulish stamps are just cute as can be.  She used heat embossing and glitter glue.  Colored pencils or markers to color in the pictures.

She also used her glittery watercolor paints on this card for her son.  He is a lion lover.
I am not sure of the stamping company for this stamp.
I will show my creations later on this week.

Pumpkin face

Goodbye Hot Summer
Hello Cool Fall
I picked this little wall hanging up at a quilt show this summer.
and it looks pretty cute.

Fall basket arraignment on the front porch.

That should make you smile when you come knockin on my door.
