Drawing Lab#1 Cats

The whole idea of this lab was to draw cats loosly and to have fun with it and not to "stress" about the way they look.  The directions said to draw 30, I probably got to 25 and had 3 or 4 favorites.  Then after you decide which ones you like it said to use different mediums on them.  Either redraw or scan on the computer, or use paint or colored pencils.

Here are some original drawings.

Here is the first cat I chose to color.  He has his eye on something ready to pounce.

Drawing Lab

This book is great. It is by Carla Sonheim
Since there are 52 (I am sure the author planned this) I am going to do 1 lesson per week.
I have started working on my cats already.
The lesson is to draw cats in different positions.
Then they will be colored in some way or painted.
They do not have to be anywhere near perfect.

I look forward to doing this and sharing it!

There was an Incident

First and foremost he wasn't hurt.
He ran into the back of a semi-trailer, at least he wasn't going fast.

Amazing thing, he drove it home.
The engine is blown, the transmission is torn up and the junk people will be coming to get it in a couple of days..

His father, the retired trooper has chalked this accident up to driver inattention.
He will be getting a job in the near future to fund his next vehicle.

last quiltscapes

Here are the last of the cards that I have from Rebecca Barker.
She has many, many more.

This one is called flying geese.
Looking out my back window is very similar to this, since there was corn in the field.
We have black geese, and it looks that cold right now.

This one is called crazy quilt scapes and I liked it because looking down from and airplane reminds me of this.
I also love crazy quilts with the embroidery and it is on my Quilts to make list.
I loved the ones that Susan Saranden was making for her children for Christmas in the movie "Step Mom".
She put important pictures of them in the quilt blocks.  They were really neat!

Illustrator Assignment #4

This last assignment I am going to share was to design a button for the annual Three Rivers Festival, then if chosen the design would be used.
It had to have the sponsors name in a prominent place, in this case Fort Wayne Newspapers.
It had to have what number the year of the festival was-41 and the date it was to take place.
Below are some of the thumbnail ideas I came up with.

This is one of the colored rough drafts.

This is the other rough draft.
It also was not chosen, but again I am happy with the design.

Illustrator Assignment #3

This assignment was to design a T-shirt for the F/8 photo club.
I always enjoy the Armstrong ads that show a facsimile of a deceased celebrity, Lucille Ball, Sammy Davis Jr., Paul Newman and in this case James Dean holding a camera.
I liked the idea of tracing him with the program and making him on the whole side of the T-shirt.

Here is my rough draft.

Here is the finished product.
I was happy with it but it wasn't chosen because
the judges probably didn't know who was on the shirt!
That's OK....it was fun making it.
