to screen or not to screen

This porch faces due west and in the summer especially it gets too hot to use and the sun glares in at dinnertime.
We found a unit called panorama by Stoitt that seems to have fixed our dilemma.
The company came out and put the wood up where the tracks for the screens will go.

We had to get the wood painted and then the company came back and installed the tracks and screen.  The screen had to be ordered for our dimensions.
The screen is made out of woven PVC and is very tough.

Right here the screens are going down.  We can completely enclose this like a screened in porch or have only one down to stop the sun.  The screens are supposed to stop 90 percent of the sun.
It seems to stop the breeze also.
We should really enjoy this.

Detroit Tigers American League Central Champs!

I started the baseball season with this picture from the Detroit Free Press.

Last night the Tigers clinched the American League Central Division.
They will start the playoffs on Saturday...they have a couple more regular season games to play, so they don't know who they will play yet.
The man on the left is Miguel Cabrerra who is in the running for the triple crown in baseball and the man on the right is Jim Leyland the manager of the Tigers.
It's going to be some long nights ahead.

I mentioned that I would show the cards I made last week.
A couple are also when we went to the Cincinnati Stamping Convention in August.

season ends

The past week the weather has just been perfect.  A nice breeze, the lower 70's, sunshine.  Many of the plants are wearing down, the sunflowers are hanging their heavy faces and are drying out.  The mums though are in their glorious splendor.  I love the perfect shapes of the two in the foreground.

I still am in awe of the size of the one on the right.

The giant zinnias with their rough looking flowers.  The orange color is just so pretty.
