kingfisher

This interesting bird sits at each end of our pond.  Swoops over it and dives for dinner.  It makes a rat a tat tat noise as it flys.  I've discovered it is a kingfisher and here is a really nice site that tells about it and all of it's calls. 

It doesn't say anything about flying and diving!
